Note:  the UIC Spanish department defines native or "heritage" speaker this way:

You are a Heritage Spanish speaker if you answer yes to any
of the following questions:

*  Does anyone with whom you live speak only Spanish to you,
   whether you respond in English or Spanish?

*  Do you speak Spanish with your parents or grandparents?

*  Do your family members in general consider themselves
   Spanish speakers?
