Undergraduate Certificate in the Teaching of Economics

I. Purpose

The Undergraduate Certificate in the Teaching of Economics (UCTE) offered by the Department of Economics, University of Illinois of Chicago, is designed to help prepare individuals for careers in teaching Economics and Consumer Economics at the secondary school level. It is intended to complement the university degree and certifications that are normally required for teaching. The UCTE can be obtained by economics majors enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, or by students enrolled in any other undergraduate degree program in the LAS.

The purpose of the UCTE is to contribute to an improvement in the quality of instruction in the teaching of Economics and Consumer Economics at the secondary level. It will do this by providing training in teaching methods to those receiving a degree in Economics, and by providing training in Economics and teaching methods to those in other disciplines.
