
Dr. Regina Carvalho
Second Year Postgraduate Student
Dr. Regina Carvalho comes from Bahia, Brazil and did her undergraduate training at Universidade Federal da Bahia earning her B.D.S. in 1996. She did a post-graduate internship in Endodontics at Universidade de Brasilia and finished in 1998. In 2000, Dr. Carvalho completed an 18 month Postdoctoral Residency in Endodontics at Universidade Integrada Educativa e Envangelica in Anapolis, DF. Coming to UIC, she earned her Masters degree in Oral Sciences in 2004. Dr. Carvalho earned numerous awards at UIC including: A First Place Award in Postgraduate Clinical Science in February 2004; an Award for Excellence in Student Research at the Hinman Student Research Symposium held in Memphis, TN October 2004; a First Place Graduate Basic Science Award in February 2005 from UIC; and the Sigma Xi Graduate Research Forum's First Place Award in April 2005. Dr. Carvalho is currently dually enrolled at UIC and is in the second year of her Ph. D. program studying cell biology and anatomy in the College of Medicine.
Dr. Carvalho's research interests include biocompatibilty of dental materials, instrumentation and obturation techniques, and dentin regeneration and bone marrow stem cell research.
In her spare time, Regina enjoys spending time with her daughter, Ana Catharina, bowling, watching movies, cooking, and traveling.
Dr. Carvalho plans to go into academics full-time following graduation by pursuing teaching and research.
