Clinical Specialty Program

The program in endodontics is a full-time program that requires twenty-four consecutive months to complete. The program has been designed to satisfy the needs of those who wish to acquire greater skill, knowledge, and experience in endodontics, as well as a background in biological sciences. Those who complete the course of study fully meet the educational requirements for certification by the American Board of Endodontics and state licensing bodies for the specialty practice of endodontics. The program includes participation in formal lectures, seminars, and laboratory courses; pursuit of endodontically oriented research; teacher-assisting in undergraduate teaching of endodontics; and treatment of patients in the endodontics clinic. Upon completion of the course, students are awarded a certificate of proficiency by the College of Dentistry. The program is accredited by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.

The College of Dentistry plans to implement a programmatic tuition for its specialty programs as follows: Matriculation July, 2008: Endodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics Matriculation August, 2008: Orthodontics The estimated programmatic tuition for the first year of study year will be $20,000 and will be charged to incoming program students only. Students currently enrolled in these programs will not be charged this tuition. University fees, instrument costs, etc. will be in addition to the above tuition. This estimated tuition amount is provided for planning purposes only. The actual tuition to be charged is subject to approval by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. In conjunction with this tuition and, only for those students enrolled under this new tuition model, the College is planning to implement a revenue sharing program (for qualifying students) effective July/August 2008. Under this program, those students will have an opportunity to earn, on a quarterly basis, gross payments equaling 25% of their actual collections for clinical work performed in their specialty clinics.
