CAMPUS VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Rick Schmidt, Class of 1985, mentors graduating students Every September - Every January - Career Prep Day: Devote one Saturday to mentoring graduating students and reviewing resumes. Volunteers are recruited in July/August and December/January by email. Thirty alumni are needed representing every field of engineering. Contact eaa@uic.edu.

Every April – Senior Design EXPO: Spend one day as a Corporate Judge evaluating student research conducted by dynamic teams of seniors. Judges are recruited in January at eaa@uic.edu.

 

Jerry Meyerhoff, Class of 1970, receives the 2004 Distinguished Service Award.Every May – Graduation: Attend College of Engineering Graduation ceremonies, sitting with alumni and their families in a VIP section. Reserve seats at eaa@uic.edu.


Bioengineering Professor and alumnus Bill Pietrzak introduces high school students to engineering. High School Outreach Program: Show students the world of engineering through your eyes. Make a presentation to an area science class or other group on "Engineering - College and Career." Technology is changing rapidly, and engineers are at the center of it. Many school counselors and teachers enjoy having engineers explain the fields in general and introduce UIC Engineering in particular. Contact Assistant Dean Denise Hayman for additional information.

Alumni-Admissions Outreach Program: Telephone six students who have been accepted to UIC within a one-month period to answer any questions that they may have. Contact the UIAA at http://www.uiaa.org/chicago/outreach/

Support Your Professional Society Campus Chapter: Volunteer as a mentor, speak at a meeting or class or bring student groups to tour your corporate facility. Support the Professional Engineering Societies Council (PESC) activities during National Engineers Week and all year long. Contact PESC. http://uic-pesc.org
