Re:      Fall Engineering Career Prep Day, Saturday, September 15, 2007

For the 11th year, the UIC Engineering Alumni Association proudly invites you to be an important part of a most significant alumni volunteer event for our engineering students: the Fall Engineering Career Prep Day.

This is our opportunity to contribute to UIC's engineering community in its efforts to better prepare engineering students for a bright and creative future.

Engineering Career Prep Day brings together alumni, College of Engineering and UIC Career Service professionals, and students for a one-day workshop that assists students with their resumes and prepares them for a successful job search.  A panel discussion is offered in the morning.  Then, as an alumni mentor, you will meet with a small group of undergraduate or graduate students who share your area of expertise in a resume review session. Mentors also discuss the student's career goals and answer questions about conducting a job search and interviewing.

Career Prep Day is always a great success.  And, it is always held with a few weeks of a career fair at which there will be many engineering firms.

To serve 150 students, we need to have at least 40 volunteer mentors.   That could be you!   That also means we need your commitment on September 6th.

As a mentor, your time commitment is from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM if you attend or participate in the EAA panel or Noon to 3:00 PM if you only mentor.  Lunch and parking are provided.  This year, we are moving Career Prep Day to the wonderful Oasis known as the Science Learning Center.  This is located in the Science and Engineering South (SES) building.

You may register as a mentor beginning August 3rd at the College of Engineering

Contact Nancy J. Cohen, Director of Development at 312-996-2168 or njcohen@uic.edu if you have questions about Career Prep Day or about the sponsorship opportunities that are explained below.

We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks. Thank you!

Corporate and Individual Support for Engineering Career Prep Days September 2007 and February 2008

Corporate support and individual sponsorship is essential to the success of Engineering Career Prep Day.  Anticipated annual expenditures are $5,400.00 or $2,700.00 for each session in September 2007 and February 2008.  This includes rental of space and audiovisual services, printing materials, and refreshments.

Corporate donors and mentors are thanked in Engineering News , the college alumni magazine that has a base among almost 18,000 alumni and friends, most in the United States.  The EAA and the College of Engineering recognize donors on the day of the event, including through banners that announce their sponsorship, and on its Web site.

While this is not a career fair, alumni mentors find that it provides access to the brightest and most proactive of graduating students.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Corporate and Individual sponsors of Engineering Career Prep Day are recognized on the event banner and in presentations during the workshops.  Students are informed about the sponsors, and sponsoring companies are invited to provide literature on employment opportunities at the event.  Additional recognition is provided during the year in Engineering News , the College of Engineering alumni magazine, including the Honor Roll of Donors.

Underwriting levels are:

  • Principal Sponsor $1,500+    Corporate leader will receive primary credit for sponsoring Engineering Career Prep Day and will receive specific credit for sponsoring the mentoring sessions.
  • Corporate and Individual Underwriters  $750+  Corporations and Individuals may elect to provide a contribution to cover a portion of the costs of the event or to underwrite a specific program cost.

Formal proposals to facilitate the sponsorship of Engineering Career Prep Day and explain the purpose and successes of this program are available.
