PROF. MAZUMDER GETS ONR YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD |
I am delighted to inform all of you that Sudip, Assistant Professor of the ECE department, has received the ONR Young Investigator Award for 2005. As part of this project he will receive about $300,000 for three years. He had received the NSF CAREER award in 2003. Please join me in congratulating Sudip for this achievement. His project description is attached below.
Executive Summary
The goals of this project are to devise robust wireless control framework for a spatially distributed power-electronics system (emulating Navy's AEPS platform) and demonstrate its efficacy via detailed simulation and scaled real-time testbed (hardware-in-the-loop - HIL) validation. Specifically, the objectives of the project are as follows:
1. Investigate and assess the performance limitations, reliability, and suitability of the existing wireless communication and protocol schemes and associated wireless commercial of the shelf technology for distributed control with respect to stability, performance, and sensitivity.
2. Devise robust wireless distributed control strategy for AEPS that overcomes the present wireless-communication limitations and demonstrate capabilities with respect to stabilization and performance and interactive control for power-management optimization and fault tolerance.
3. Demonstrate the feasibility and robustness of the wireless distributed control system (DCS) for AEPS using Simulink and SimPowerSystems based comprehensive simulation platform for the assessment of theoretical analysis and control mechanisms, and using 'scaled' HIL platform for experimental validations.
