William S. Pietrzak, Ph.D., obtained his B.S. in Engineering (Bioengineering) from UICC (University of Illinois at Chicago Circle) in 1977 and his Ph.D. (Bioengineering) from UIC in 1988. He has been in the medical device industry for nearly 30 years, in areas as diverse as hydrogel development for soft contact lenses, laser angioplasty, and orthopedics, including sports medicine implants and instruments, bioabsorbable implants, engineered bone grafts, and platelet technology.
He is currently Principle Research Scientist at Biomet, Inc. (Warsaw, IN), a leading developer and manufacturer of orthopedic implant systems. Dr. Pietrzak is also Adjunct Research Professor of Bioengineering at UIC and has been involved with Senior Design students for the past several years. He holds four patents in the orthopedic field and has authored or co-authored nearly 50 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and abstracts.
Currently, Dr. Pietrzak is co-editing a book entitled Musculoskeletal Tissue Regeneration: Biological Materials and Methods for the Humana Press and is a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals.
