Freshman and Transfer Orientation for Underrepresented Students

ENGR 189 is a 13 week graduation requirement course (equivalent to ENGR 100) designed to provide a smooth transition from high school and community college into the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and to promote academic excellence.

In ENGR 189 you will learn the rules, regulations of the College of Engineering and, the requirements and challenges of studying engineering. You will interact with key academic personnel, student organizations, engineering faculty, and professional engineers through class presentations. You will conduct an engineering design project, learn to use electronic mail and the Internet, write a resume, learn about decision-making in engineering practice, and much more.

Denise R. Hayman is the Director of Minority Affairs for the College of Engineering.

Kamilah N. McCoy, Assistant Director for the Minority Engineering Recruitment and Retention Program, is the instructor for ENGR 189 transfer section.
