Subscribing to MERRP-L and ENGRNEWS

You are required to maintain contact with your ENGR 189 instructor on a regular basis.  If you don’t wish to visit the MERRP office, you should send an e-mail message to them letting them know of your academic progress/status.

Everyone on campus is designated a net-id, which identifies you for different applications, including e-mail.  You will need to visit the Computer Center office in 2267 SEL to find your net-id and “activate” your e-mail account.  You should also consult them if you need further assistance (eg. Forgotten passwords, account troubles, etc...)

On the UIC campus, important information about scholarships, employment opportunities, campus events, etc... is distributed to engineering students through an e-mail list called ENGRNEWS (“Engineering News”).  Additional information relevant to minority engineering students is sent to MERRP students through the MERRP-L e-mail list.

Using e-mail

Every student is issued an "icarus" account.  This is the account where you will be doing much of your e-mailing.  Once you have accessed your icarus account, you can use differing programs to read and send your e-mail.  Most students on campus use webmail to read their e-mail.  Go to http://www.webmail.uic.edu/.

Subscribing to both is Mandatory for ENGR 189!

To subscribe to ENGRNEWS, send an e-mail message to:             listserv@listserv.uic.edu, leave the subject, cc:, and attachment lines blank and write the following command in the body of the message:

subscribe ENGRNEWS firstname lastname

subscribe MERRP-L firstname lastname

Make sure you spelled the first 2 words correctly.  After successfully sending the e-mail message, you will then receive an e-mail message with instructions on how to use the list.  You will need to confirm your subscription, so read the e-mail carefully!

If you need any assistance, you should go to the CSO office in 2267 SEL.
