What is STEP?

The objective of the STEP program is to facilitate global engineers.

  • International educational experiences for engineering professionals are required due to the integration of engineering practice across borders.
  • Participation in STEP provides students with crucial international savvy.
How does STEP work?

Students participate through an exchange program established between universities in the United States and the European Union. Students belonging to a home institution go to an overseas host institution.

US students travel to Europe. Their STEP studies include engineering and non-engineering coursework, research experience, and language and cultural training. The non-engineering language, and cultural courses may be counted towards a student's degree requirements. Students return to the U.S. and obtain International Studies minor and obtain credits toward their baccalaureate degree.

E.U. students travel to the U.S. after successfully completing three years towards their first engineering degree. Their STEP studies include engineering coursework and a research thesis. They return and complete their engineering degree and also obtain a U.S. Master's degree.

Students travel in both transatlantic directions to pursue a Ph.D. degree. Double degrees from both the host and home institutions are possible after fulfilling additional requirements.
