The Program for Writers announces a new series:

Writers at Work

Writers from the Program will read and discuss works-in-progress in an informal setting. Not exactly a workshop, not exactly a reading.

Panel discussion: Editing Anthologies -- How and Why.
All of our panelists are writers of poetry, fiction and/or creative nonfiction, and have edited one or more anthologies:
Gina Frangello, executive editor of OV Books; Charles Blackstone, UIC graduate and editor of Frictions, fiction anthology; Anne Calcagno, editor of two books of CNF travel writing on Italy and Tuscany; William Allegrezza, editor of The City Visible: Chicago Poetry for the New Century; David Trinidad, editor of Saints of Hysteria: A Half-Century of Collaborative American Poetry; Davis Schneiderman, editor of an anthology of scholarly essays on William Burroughs; Rachel Tecza, editor of The Darfur Anthology, poetry and prose.
Light refreshments will follow. Books by participating editors and publishers will be available.

2008 One-on-One Reading Series
Friday, April 11, 3 p.m. department seminar room
featuring Chad Heltzel and Robyn Schiff

The One-on-One Reading series pairs a student from the Program for Writers with a writer of national repute. The student reads first, incorporating an overview of how his or her work has been influenced by the guest writer's work, as well as an introduction of the guest writer. The guest then reads from his or her work, followed by questions from the audience.



Wanted: first books by former Program for Writers students. We're building a collection of first published books by our graduates. Of course we really want the book you worked on while here, but even if you publish something different as your first book, we'd like to have a copy for our collection. Send to:
