Completing the On Line Courses

Introduction
The following instructions are for accessing the UIC/EHSO on-line training modules:

Laboratory Safety Refresher Training is required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for all researchers, students, faculty and staff working in laboratories with chemicals. This should be completed annually.

Introduction to Hazardous Material Shipping and Receiving is required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) for anyone preparing, shipping or receiving packages of hazardous materials (chemicals, infectious materials, chemical or diagnostic samples, etc.). This includes laboratory workers, office staff, and shipping and receiving personnel who handle packages and gas cylinders. The Hazardous Materials training must be repeated every three years.

Time Commitment

The courses will take approximately two hours each to complete. Please allow enough time to complete the course.

IF ANY SKIPPING IS DETECTED BY THE SYSTEM, IT CAN NOT AND WILL NOT CONSIDER TRAINING "COMPLETE". THIS WILL CAUSE USER TO LOOSE ACCESS TO CERTIFICATE AND WILL HAVE TO START OVER.

  • A score of 80% is required for passing.
  • Should a user fail the exam, the exam may be taken more than once.

Getting Started
Complete the following steps to register for and access the online training course.

 IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY ENROLLED, DO NOT ENROLL AGAIN. PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW. Registration records were not transferred from previous training site. You are considered "New User" if you have not previously registered at the OVCR site.

new user, Select Register with Us. establish a user name * and password (8-12 letters or numbers)

Complete user profile and proceed to step 3.

*If you have forgotten your username or password, select Forgot username and Password and follow instructions.

 Proceed to step 3
  1. Select Course Catalog from the menu on the left.
  2. Check mark "Environmental Health and Safety" and click on Browse Selected Categories
  3. Click on "Laboratory Safety Refresher Training" or "Introduction to Hazardous Material Shipping and Receiving" course.
  4. Click on the Enroll.
  5. Click on My Courses.
  6. Click on Launch Course and complete the course.
  7. When course is completed, it will automatically proceed to the Quiz , complete quiz and click on Submit Answers.
  8. Exam will be scored and result will be provided. For failed exams, please review appropriate lessons and click on Retake exam.
  9. Once exam is successfully completed with a passing score, the system will indicate that the chouse has been completed.
  10. An email will be sent to user regarding training certificate.

Verification of Training

Following successful completion of the course, the UIC Training Learning Management System (LMS) will generate an automatic email to the user indicating which course has been completed and providing information as to accessing and printing the certificate for completed course.
