This course provides a general introduction to
paleontology. Subject areas are about equally divided
between basic principles, including evolution, functional
morphology, biostratigraphy, and systematics, and an
overview of the principal groups of fossil organisms.
Labs focus on the morphology and systematics of the
major fossil groups. Each student writes a term paper
about a topic of choice. There is a one-day field trip
to a major fossil collecting site.
