This course is an introduction to the basic concepts and recent developments
of plate tectonics. Topics covered include plate kinematics, marine magnetics
and paleomagnetics, evolution of oceanic lithosphere, transform faults, subduction
zones, passive margins, hot spots, and present-day deformation. In addition,
a written term paper with an oral presentation is required. The currently used
textbook is "Global Tectonics" (Kearey and Vine).
