This course focuses on the theory and methods of evolutionary paleobiology.
Topics include systematic methods, functional and descriptive morphology, major
patterns in the fossil record, mass extinctions, paleoecology, and biostratigraphy.
Weekly discussion of readings from the primary literature. Labs focus on a review
of major fossil groups and on paleontological methods. Visits are made to the
Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum, as well as a field trip to a fossil collecting
site.
