Greetings from the Director of Graduate Studies:
Thank you for your interest
in the graduate program in History at the University of Illinois
at Chicago. Our department was recently ranked among the top twenty
graduate history programs in the nation. We offer a broad curriculum,
an outstanding faculty, and an ideal urban location for graduate
study in history.
The Department
of History at UIC offers three graduate degrees - the Master of
Arts in History (MA), the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), and
the Ph.D. in History. We also offer two concentrations in the Ph.D.
program - Work, Race, and Gender in the Urban World (WRGUW pronounced
"Argue") and Encounters, Ethnographies, and Empires (Encounters).
More information on our programs as well as all application materials
can be found on our website: http://www.uic.edu/depts/hist/
Please note
that the deadline for application is January
1 for Ph.D./Ph.D. track while it is February 15 for MA and MAT. You may submit either an online
or a paper application. In either case, you must send your materials
to both the Graduate College and to the Department of History. I
am enclosing specific information on the application process on
a separate sheet.
Below you
will find descriptions of our programs of study, information on
the admission process, and information about financial assistance.
Application information and materials can also be found on the UIC
Graduate College website: http://www.uic.edu/depts/grad/
Once again,
thank you for your interest in our program. Please let me know if
you have any other questions or need more information. You are always
welcome to make an appointment to visit the department or to email
me at histdgs@uic.edu. You
may also contact the Assistant to the Director of Graduate Studies,
Ms. Linda VanPuyenbroeck (312) 996-3141 or lindavp@uic.edu.
I look forward to hearing from you.
