UIC Department of History
The History
Department at UIC ranks among the top 20 graduate programs in history.
Located in the heart of Chicago, the UIC campus is an ideal place
to pursue graduate training in history. At any one time, approximately
250 undergraduate majors and 160 graduate students are enrolled
and working toward degrees in the UIC History Department.
Faculty
The UIC Department of History includes approximately 40 full-time
faculty. Among the faculty are a number of award-winning scholars
in fields such as U.S. African American History, gay and lesbian
history, comparative labor history, and Mexican history.
Library
Resources
The UIC Library's special Collections houses important archival
materials on the history of Chicago, social and urban reform, race,
and politics. UIC has reciprocal agreements with major research
libraries in the Chicago area including the University of Illinois
Champaign-Urbana, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University,
the Chicago Historical Society, and the Newberry Library. In addition,
the Great Lakes branch of the National Archives is located nearby.
