Employee Recognition Award Ceremony 2013 - Tuesday, November 5
The 2013 Employee Recognition Award Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, November 5 at the UIC Forum. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a formal reception and buffet.
Employee Recognition Month
During Employee Recognition Month, a series of events is held to recognize outstanding contributions by UIC employees. Employee Recognition Month includes departmental ceremonies as well as campus wide programs, planned for the purpose of honoring our faculty and staff.
Employee Recognition Award Ceremony
The Employee Recognition Award Ceremony kicks off Employee Recognition Month during which UIC celebrates the service and outstanding performance of our faculty and staff. This campus wide program serves to publicly recognize work and community accomplishments which in turn help to build morale and motivate our employees.

Award of Merit recognizes outstanding academic professionals and civil service employees. It is a university-wide honor available to all UIC campus staff members who exhibit service, commitment and dedication. Award recipients receive $2,500 and a memento gift. |
![]() | Service Recognition Awards recognizes faculty members, academic professionals and civil service employees for years of service to UIC in five-year increments starting with 25 years of service. ![]() | CAPE Award, the Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence Award, established in 1988, recognizes the demonstrated excellence of academic professional staff, encourages their professional development and indicates the institution’s high regard for the contributions of this key segment of the academic community. The CAPE award is based on peer review broadly selected from the ranks of the Academic Professional community. The CAPE Selection Committee is a standing Committee of APAC. This subcommittee is chaired by an APAC member. The Selection Committee is made up of Academic Professionals from both the east and west campuses which may include past CAPE recipients. UIC faculty, academic professionals, support staff or students can make CAPE nominations. Each year, a maximum of four academic professionals may receive the CAPE Award. The award provides a $1,000 permanent increase to the individual’s salary, along with a $2,000 one-time cash award. CAPE Homepage |
![]() | In 2007, the program added the INSPIRE Award to recognize individuals who have consistently, and over long periods of time based their every action on UIC’s Core Values, "Integrity, Nurture, Service, Pride, Intellect, Respect, and Excellence". ![]() Janice Watkins Award for Distinguished Civil Service recognizes exceptional support staff for their distinguished civil service. The design for the award is based on three interlocking components signifying the unity of faculty, staff, and students of the University of Illinois at Chicago. The award is a token of gratitude from the university and is awarded to support staff employees who exhibit a pleasant, warm demeanor and provide willing assistance to others and perform duties with diligence and dedication. ![]() Woman of the Year Award is an annual award sponsored by The Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women (CCSW) which honors a woman who consistently works on women’s issues beyond the call of duty and who is an exemplary role model. The award criteria includes providing service to women at UIC while on the job, responding to issues affecting women, and offering service to women through voluntarism and public support of women’s programs. A committee of CCSW officers and former award winners make the final selection from among the nominees. Winners are honored with a reception officiated by the Chancellor and a cash award of $1,000. At the Employee Recognition Award Program, the recipient of the U I Hospital’s Academy Award is honored. The Academy Award recipient is selected by the employee recognition committee from the year’s Class Act recipients and the selected recipient will be The Employee of the Year. This employee’s identity is announced at an annual dinner held in honor of the year’s Class Act awardees. |
Class Act Award is given to an employee who is a role model who continuously demonstrates exceptional competence and compassion in the performance of his/her job responsibilities and is an outstanding example of UI Hospital’s five values, "Integrity, Innovation, Safety, Accountability and Service Excellence." |
Caught in the Act Award is given to an employee who either shows concern for and support of others in performing daily tasks or voluntarily provides service beyond the call of duty, either on-the-job, or in the community. |
