Medicare Part D Information
TO: University of Illinois President, Vice Presidents and Chancellors
FROM: James P. Davito, Benefits Service Center Director
I am contacting you to simply make you aware of a recent change in Medicare and the effect this change will have on our Medicare eligible employees and retirees.
As you may know, the Enrollment Period for the new Medicare Part D program (covering prescription drugs) began on November 15, 2005. The complexity of the program and the challenges that Medicare eligible persons will encounter as they consider enrolling in it, have received considerable attention in the media. We are now beginning to get a few questions from our employees aged 65 years and older about the program.
The State Department of Central Management Services (CMS) has taken the lead in distributing information about this new program. They have sent two communications (see attached) to all Medicare eligible employees and retirees. These communications make it clear that it is not necessary for our Medicare eligible employees and retirees to purchase a Medicare prescription drug plan.
If you have or receive any questions about this new program, you are welcome to forward them to me at davito@uillinois.edu or you may contact me directly at (217) 244-1041. Thank you .
