Managing Your Career: More For Managers
Overview

‹ | Allocating Resources ›

UIC is a large and complex organization with an ambitious mission and many diverse colleges, departments, and units. UIC depends on employees in management roles to act with clarity of purpose, perform with expertise, and to empower every employee to achieve professional success. To that end, UIC has identified five Manager Competencies that are imperative for every manager to demonstrate.

The Manager Competencies provide a framework of skills that will help individuals achieve the goals of their organizational group while simultaneously contributing to strategic goals of the campus and university. Manager performance evaluations include the mastery of these competencies in addition to the Core Competencies expected of every UIC employee.

All employees in a management role are expected to exhibit an initial level of proficiency in each Manager Competency and to demonstrate increasing proficiency as their career at UIC advances.

Beginner
Managers with less than 1 year tenure
Intermediate
Managers with 1 to 5 years tenure
Advanced
Managers with 5+ years tenure

See the description page for each Manager Competency for a definition, behavioral descriptors, and resources for aiding in the development of your proficiencies.
