UIC is a diverse workplace and each job position has unique responsibilities, requires particular expertise, and offers specific challenges. Make sure each member of your team has a clear understanding of the tasks, behaviors, and competencies each are expected to demonstrate in performance their job.
Schedule time with new employees during the first week of employment to discuss your expectations, and help them develop an understanding of the specific performance expectations for their position. Use the Planning and Performance Expectations form to help clarify your expectations. Ask your new employee to complete the form, and discuss it during your meeting.
All employees should review performance expectations during their Annual Employee Performance Review. Encourage your team members to ask for clarification if there is any uncertainty of what is expected of them. Meet with them as needed to make your expectations clear.
The Employee Performance Review (EPR) Process is intended for all UIC employees. It is a year-round process intended to assist managers in their effort to help employees perform in their jobs more effectively. EPR is competency-based and development focused.
