Employees with a situation in their personal life that may require them to take time off from work should work with their manager and Human Resources representative to determine what leave benefits may be applicable in their unique situation. Leave benefits are dictated by Federal Laws, Illinois State Statutes, University of Illinois Statutes and Rules and UIC Policies.

There are numerous types of leave; each leave has its own set of requirements. The Department of Human Resources e-book, UIC Leave Benefits outlines key information about leave benefits, what may qualify for a leave of absence, and outlines which processes to follow to request a leave.
