Tuition (excluding differentials) & Selected Fee Waiver Eligibility: Must hold an assistantship between 25% and 67% for a minimum of 91 continuous calendar days during the period beginning a week before instruction and the last day of finals during Fall or Spring semester and for 41 continuous calendar days during the summer term service period. A 25%-67% time appointment must be maintained for the duration of the assistantship to be eligible for a tuition and selected fee waiver. Increasing the assistantship above 67% or decreasing it below 25% will cause loss of the waiver. The only exceptions are appointments during the break between Fall and Spring semesters, as well as during the Spring break.

Note: Those who received an assistantship tuition waiver in the Spring semester, but do not have an assistantship in the summer, will be eligible for the summer waiver. A student with a summer assistantship must meet the criteria for a summer waiver regardless of whether or not they held a Spring appointment.

- GRAD TCH ASST

Student vs Grad
The following is meant to help distinguish a Student Employee appointment from a Grad appointment ."Grad Assistant-Student" is no longer an appropriate title.  In legacy systems it was used to distinguish a Student Employee (SA) job held by someone with a Grad Assistantship (GA).  However, Banner allows a mix of employee-group jobs, so the title of each job should be distinctive to the e-class.

Student Group (SA)

  • Undergraduates
  • Graduate students doing Student Employee work (may be paid at higher rate with Student Employment approval)

Hourly Group(HG)

  • Graduate students doing Graduate level work being paid by the hour

Grad Group(GA)

  • Grad Assistantships with percent appointments
  • May have additional appointment as Grad student defined under Hourly.
  • May have additonal appointment as Student employee.

The type of work being done is the defining qualifier. Appointments for Student Employment work need to be routed to the Student Employment Director.
