Civil Service Employment Opportunities

    The University of Illinois at Chicago is governed under the States Universities Civil Service System. An applicant applying for University employment opportunities must compete successfully in an appropriate State Universities Civil Service Examination.     Police Officer

    Executive Secretary

    This position reports to the Executive Assistant to the Chancellor in the Office of the Chancellor. The Executive Secretary serves as the Executive Assistant's representative and liaison on a wide-range of projects and assignments both within and outside the UIC community. Duties and responsibilities include: light typing, and transcription duties as required; coordination and service to university committees as needed; correspondence and preparation of reports; coordination, participation, and/or implementation of calendar matters/decisions for individual meetings, conferences, committee meetings, special events, commencement activities, and Board of Trustees events and/or meetings as directed; responses to inquiries and concerns as needed; maintenance of personal files for the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors and performance of other related duties as assigned.

     

    Minimum acceptable qualifications:

    Five years of responsible administrative secretarial experience; working knowledge and familiarity of UIC; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work as a team member in an intensely rigorous environment is important.

    Information Technology Support Associate

    The Department of Nursing Informatics in the University of Illinois Hospital is looking for technical support. Candidates should be able to gather data for analysis, develop and maintain complex information systems, such as Banner and Citrix Server, document procedures and operations methods.


    Interested candidates must have high school graduation or equivalent and at least five years of progressively more responsible experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession or 60 semester hours of college course work which included Information Technology and work experience (IT) or a combination of education and experience.

    Patient Unit Clerk II

    Working under general supervision, employees are assigned work in a patient unit of a health care facility. Employees perform a variety of clerical patient support functions, such as creating and maintaining medical records, filing, typing and answering phones and working with medical terminology.

    Minimum qualifications required:    
    1. One year or experience as a Patient Unit Clerk I

    or
       
    2. One year of comparable work experience in a Health Care Facility such as a doctor, dentist or hospital office, which involved record keeping, working with the public, direct patient contact, answering telephones and working with medical terminology

    or
       
    3. Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial or paramedical program

    Reimbursement Coding Specialist II

    Employees in this position are professional coders responsible for coding of patient services provided in health care units. They are responsible for the overall coding operations of a large unit, must demonstrate proficiency in coding and must be knowledgeable of the requirements of industry standards such as Medicare and/or Managed Care regulations, ICD-9 and CPT systems of coding. Applicants must be able to code physician and ancillary medical services for receiving maximum allowable reimbursement from payors. Must be able to train and supervise lower level coders, research coding issues and audit coding transactions and compose reports.

    Applicants must possess three years of experience in ACD-9 CM and CPT-4 coding in acute care. In addition must possess current certification as CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA by the American Health Information Management Association, or certification as a CPC or CPC-H by the American Academy of Professional Coders.

    Food Service Worker III

    Prepares and cooks meats, fish, gravies, vegetables, bakes, pastries, hot breads, and other bakery products, prepares ingredients for and mixes salad dressings, fillings, and sauces. Plans the composition of and garnishes salads, responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in a food service area, maintains records and prepares simple reports and supervises employees in lower class ranks. To qualify candidate must have two years of experience in food service work, one of which was in quantity cooking.

    Medical Assistant (Bi-Lingual- Spanish) - Medical Center


    Under direction of physician and nursing staff, perform a variety of clinical and clerical tasks in an outpatient examining room setting.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program (CAAHEP Accredited Program Search)

    OR

    One year of Medical Assistant work experience and/or training which provided a knowledge of clinical procedures and training in vital signs and patient prep for exams, sterilization and maintenance of instruments and equipment, and assisting with examinations and minor surgical procedures. The work experience and/or training must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the applicant's overall ability to undertake medical assistant duties and must be evaluated on the basis of their /its comparability to the classroom instruction and clinical training normally provided in formal medical assistant programs.


    Salary: Non-Certified Rate $14.19 hr/$29,515 annually
    With Certification from (AAMA or NCCT) $15.83hr/$32,926 annually
