The Institute for the Humanities at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks to foster a vital intellectual community for the faculty and graduate students in the humanities and related disciplines; and to participate in the national dialogue about humanistic teaching and research. The Institute was founded in 1982 and since that time has sponsored an annual fellowship program that supports research of faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Enriched by the challenges of an urban multicultural environment, the Institute for the Humanities also encourages exchange among the scholarly community at the University of Illinois at Chicago, colleges and universities throughout the country and the public outside the university through its interdisciplinary symposia, lectures and seminars.
