CCSL Funding Guidelines

General Policy on Funding
From its official purpose, to give advice to the Chancellor on matters dealing with improving the quality of life for Latinos at UIC, CCSL has evolved into a unit which also takes a stance on issues related to work and pay, recruitment and retention, and, on an ad hoc basis, incidents of discrimination or perceived disparate treatment based on race/ethnicity. While it is true that other units on campus offer the same services, CCSL's stance is more immediate, often as the agent of first response, and, once having dispatched the problem to another unit, providing oversight to ensure that the remedies provided are effective.Activities or events which promote or inform the foregoing stand the best chance of being supported. Activities or events which are purely cultural will often be supported with token amounts, signaling a staunch approval of the event or activity while at the same time acknowledging that the main supporters of these events should be individual cultural centers or departments. Likewise, events or activities which are mainly academic may be supported with token amounts. However, if an event or activity informs questions which are directly central to serving its mission, be they culturally or academically driven, CCSL will support these events to its greatest capacity. In an effort to get commitment from others, CCSL also expects that efforts will be made to procure monetary support from as many sources as possible.

Deadlines
The CCSL Executive Committee traditionally meets on the first Monday of each month. Requests for Funding should be forwarded to both co-chairs of the committee at least one week (five working days) prior to the meeting, in order to allow the requests to be distributed and read by members of the executive committee. In addition, it is advised that requests for funding be submitted at least three weeks before the event or activity is to take place.
In the past, "emergency" requests have placed undue burden on co-chairs and executive committee members. Emergency requests will be considered on their merit, and, in addition, the following questions will be raised:
- Is the request a true emergency in the sense that the requesting parties were not aware of the need for funds until recently?
- The urgency of the request notwithstanding, is the request urgent in the sense that it addresses the CCSL's goals or priorities?
- Can the event or activity be rescheduled if CCSL's support is critical?
- Can the event or activity take place without CCSL funding?
Recognition All funding must be duly recognized on material publicizing the event or activity. "Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Latinos" should be spelled out and not written in acronym form. Copies of these materials must be forwarded to the co-chairs of the CCSL in order for proper reimbursement to take place.
- Information Needed on Proposals for Funding
- Organization Requesting Funds, Accounts Name & Number to be Credited, and Contact Person.
- Short Narrative Describing the Event or Activity: must include description of participants, in addition to the goals and objectives of the event - what do you want to achieve with this event?
- Time and Place for the Activity or Event.
- Planned Budget for the Event: must list activities and their individual costs.
- List of Funding Sources or Sources Approached for Funding.
- Event or Activity Flyer: must include a statement indicating "This Event is Co-Sponsored by the Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Latinos," along with information addressing the who, what, when, where, why of event.

General Categories of Funding
Basis Support $100 to $200These activities are generally Latino-related; however, the expected products only tangentially contribute to the mission of CCSL.
Co-Sponsorship $200 to $ 300
These programs contribute to the mission of CCSL; however, the subject matter is broad enough to warrant support from other units on campus and from the community. In these cases, CCSL will often contribute "in kind" support along with monetary support. "In kind" support includes personnel time, space and expertise which may otherwise not be available to the project. CCSL expects that they will be involved in planning/implementing of the supported activity to some degree.
Full Support $300 to Fullest Capacity
These programs contribute to the mission of CCSL and are likely not to find funding elsewhere. The level of support will vary according to the needs of the project; the urgency of the project; the level of participation of CCSL/UIC members; and, other factors which the CCSL executive committee finds fair and proper. CCSL expects to be a full participant in the planning of supported activity and to be heavily involved in implementation of the program.
