CCSL Mission Statement
The Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Latinos (CCSL) was established to promote the development of educational, professional, and career opportunities among UIC Latinos. The committee addresses issues of general concerns to Latinos at UIC through the Office of the Chancellor. CCSL was created to advise the Chancellor on Latino issues and to develop, initiate and manage programs that address the comprehensive concerns of the Latino community. Membership is voluntary and open to all employee sectors at UIC. The Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Latinos has five Sub-Committees:

Definition of the word "Latino" proposed by the Committee:
A Latino is a person who identifies with the US Latino experience and self-identifies as a Latino and meets one of the following additional criteria:
- A person of Latin American descent of any race who has migrated from Latin America or whose parents or direct ancestors migrated from Latin America to the United States for reasons other than the pursuit of higher education.
- A person of Latin American descent living in areas incorporated by the United Sates (i.e. Puerto Rico and the Southwest).
- A persons born in the United States who has at least one Latino parent or two Latino grandparents.
- Children of business, government, military or other organizational personnel stationed in Latin America are not Latinos even if born in Latin America.
