About Distance Learning
Distance Learning students are enrolled in and attend courses on the UIC campus.
In Distance Learning courses, the instructor of the course is at a different location from some of the students. These remote location students connect with the professor via high-end videoconferencing equipment in a specially designated room.
Sometimes, the UIC students will be in the classroom with a UIC professor and students from another institution will also be enrolled. Other times, it will be the UIC students who are attending the course remotely via videoconference.
Distance Learning courses are planned between two departments or instructors at the different institutions in conjunction with the CIC.
Every University has a minimum enrollment for any one course to be offered. Combining a course with low enrollment across more than one institution allows students to take courses that otherwise would not be offered, perhaps at either institution.
Distance Learning at UIC
UIC students who are enrolled at Distance Learning courses at UIC, which are taught at another institution, will use a room with video conferencing equipment. Right now, the only room being used for this purpose is Lincoln Hall 214. Click here to see a video tour of this room.
Instructions: LETS website videoconferencing tutorial. Search for LH 214.
The videoconferencing equipment will be demonstrated for you on the first day of class. If a remote is required, it will be provided in the room.
Technical support: LETS: Learning Environments and Technology Services
LETS is the group who runs the videoconferencing systems used for Distance Learning courses at UIC. Their contact information is also posted in the Distance Learning classrooms.
LCLC is always happy to assist students with any difficulty they may be having in a Distance Learning course.

Instructions: Using the UH 1720 copier to scan documents
If you are submitting electronic documents, you will submit your assignments via the course management system at the host institution, similar to Blackboard at UIC.
If you are submitting handwritten assignments, you will be provided with a copy code during the first week of class. This code allows you to scan your homework to a PDF using a departmental copier and email it to your instructor. You are also welcome to use any other scanner to which you have access to send these documents to your instructor.
The scanner is located in Room 1720 University Hall. The room is open from 8:45 am till 4:15 pm. If you have trouble with the UH scanner, you can ask for help in the office next door. You can also email .
It is recommended that you email yourself a copy of anything you email to your instructor.
If your exam is given on paper, someone may proctor the exam and submit it to your instructor. It is also possible that any exams may be given to you online.

If you are enrolled in a course that is taught at another institution, it might not be in UIC Blackboard. You may instead find your course information in the host institution's course management system. You should be contacted before the beginning of the term with information on how to create a password and access the other institution's course management system.
