UIC Library Instruction Program Philosophy Statement

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Library develops and implements its curriculum to teach UIC students how to meet their information needs through library seminars, individual instruction, online tutorials, and curriculum-integrated instruction. The teaching program of the Library promotes the understanding of the organization of knowledge resources and the development of abilities to retrieve, manage, and critically evaluate information and its associated technologies efficiently and effectively.

The instructional program aims first to reach UIC students at key transition points in their education: their initial year at UIC, early research-intensive classes, and beginning graduate or advanced professional studies. The program also aims to provide focused instruction for students with specialized information needs at any point in the education process. The program further aims to provide focused instruction for users from other institutions, and professional groups, such as teachers, librarians or healthcare providers, as part of the Library's outreach initiatives.
