Research
Most of my research has dealt with bibliographic control of reference sources in science, engineering, medicine, AIDS, and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender issues.

Librarianship
After earning my B.S. in geological engineering from the University of Kansas in 1955, I was a geological engineer for Gulf Oil Corp. I earned by M.L.S. from the University of Denver in 1963. I worked in Libraries at the University of Kansas and University of Denver until coming to the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1985 as Bibliographer for Science and Engineering. I am now Professor and Principal Bibliographer and Head of Reference at UIC with collection responsibilities for engineering, science, mathematics, computer science, general reference, and electronic journals. Teaching
I have taught Bibliography courses at the Graduate School of Librarianship at the University of Denver, Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Bibliography courses at the University of Kansas, Administration courses at the Graduate School of Librarianship at Emporia State University, and Bibliography courses at the School of Library and Information Science at University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.
Recognition
I am a Fellow of the Special Libraries Association and have received the Louis Shores--Oryx Press Award for excellence in the reviewing of books and other materials for libraries from the Reference and Adult Services Division of the American Library Assoication.
Service
I am a past president of the Special Libraries Association, Geoscience Information Society, American Society of Information Sciences Frontier Chapter, and Mountain Plains Library Association.
I have been a keynote speaker at Iowa University, Mid-Continental Regional Group, and Special Libraries Association San Andreas Chapter, as well as being the Alberta L. Brown Lecturer in Special Librarianship at Western Michigan University. Within the UIC Library I have served on various committees and task forces, including Nominations and Elections, Performance Review Task Force, Steering Committee, and Library Faculty Executive Committee. Within UIC I have served on the Senate Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, Senate Committee on Academic Services, and Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Issues.
