Library
policy on recalled items
UIC Library
materials are shared resources subject to recall for use by other patrons.
A recall or a save queue shortens the loan period. Such items
cannot be renewed and must be returned by the revised
due date. Recall notices noting the new due date are sent out by the
Library.
Items not returned
by the due date are handled as lost books. Lost books are billed at
a minimum of $75 per item plus a $25 non-refundable processing fee.
Additional overdue charges of $1.00 per day may also apply.
UIC Library materials
are considered property of the State of Illinois. Payment of lost book
charges does not confer ownership, as conversion of State property to
personal use is illegal.
How
to recall items
Items that have the status of "Checked Out" may be recalled.
To place a recall, use the "Request" feature in UICCAT and
select the "Recall" option. A second option is to fill out
the Place
a Save/Recall a Book form.
Recalled items will
take time to become available. Notices are sent to the user who has
checked out the item; that user then has a period of time in which to
return the item. As a result, it may be faster to find the item through
other libraries. Users are encouraged to check I-Share to determine whether copies are available through that catalog
for requesting. Such requests are more likely to be filled faster if
available. Users may also request checked out items through Interlibrary
Loan.
