The UIC/University of Chicago Reciprocal Borrowing agreement, effective January 4, 2000, makes the resources of the libraries at UIC and at the University of Chicago available to faculty from both institutions. It includes access and borrowing privileges at all University of Chicago libraries: Harper, Regenstein, Social Service Administration (SSA), Law, Crerar, Chemistry, Eckhart, and Yerkes.
Eligibility
Tenured, tenure-track, and clinical faculty in the professorial ranks are eligible to participate. Faculty authorization to others does not apply. Faculty with other types of appointment may be eligible to use the Crerar Access or Crerar Borrower cards kept at the Daley Library Reserve Desk. Users must present a valid i-Card to charge out Crerar cards. The loan period for these cards is three days. The overdue fine is $5.00 per day.How to Apply
Eligible UIC faculty may apply at the Richard J. Daley Library Circulation Desk, the Access Services Desk in the Library of the Health Sciences, or via e-mail. The authorizing identification card can be picked up at the desk you visited or mailed to you. This card, along with the UIC i-card, should be presented to staff in the Privileges Office in the Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago main campus located at 1100 East 57th Street. The hours of the Privileges Office are 8:30am-7:00pm, Mon-Thu; 8:30am-5:00pm, Fri; and 9:00am-1:00pm, Sat. Hours are shorter during interim periods. The telephone number is 773-702-8782.Using the University of Chicago Library
Information about holdings and availability of items in the University of Chicago Library can be obtained by checking its online catalog. The University Library's Web site includes hours and other information about the University of Chicago Library and its services. Information, also, can be obtained by calling Regenstein Library General Reference at 773-702-7874.Borrowing Privileges and Renewals
UIC faculty may borrow most regularly-circulating items for 16 weeks from Harper, Law, Regenstein, and SSA; and for 2 weeks from Chemistry, Crerar, Eckhart, and Yerkes. Renewals may be made over the web via the Borrower Information function in University of Chicago's online catalog, via e-mail, or in person. Telephone renewal requests are not accepted. After three renewals, items must be returned or, if still needed, taken back for re-charging.Borrowers incur overdue fines and lost-book charges for books not renewed or returned in a timely fashion. Lost-book charges vary by title/location. Books may be recalled at any time. Unresolved problems may result in the loss of borrowing privileges. See for details.
Books borrowed from the University of Chicago may be returned to any UIC library. However, borrowers are responsible for books until they reach the University of Chicago Library and are checked in. Accordingly, calculate approximately 7 calendar days "travel" time to avoid overdue charges on materials in transit.
