National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS)
Locations: Documents Department,aisle R5;
NCJRS web site, http://www.ncjrs.org/
Finds citations to many different types of publications, including reports,
documents and journal articles.
*Search using the new, full-text option, which will link to some full-text
reports.
To locate journal articles from the citations, check UICCAT for the journal
title.
To locate documents and reports, use the NCJ number at either the NCJRS
website for recent publications (1995 - present) or the Microforms Deptartment, on
the 3rd floor of the library for older publications (prior to 1995).
Indexes
Congressional Information Services (CIS) Index
Location: Index Tables, 2nd floor, Daley Library
Covers Congressional hearings, reports, and documents. Topics covered
by these publications include juvenile delinquency, the death penalty,
domestic violence, and prisons.
Statistics
American Statistics Index (ASI)
Location: Index Tables, 2nd floor, Daley Library
Comprehensive index of U.S. Government statistical publications. There
are subject, name, title, and category indexes that give citations to
abstracts of publications in the abstract volume. Publications not found
in the documents depository collection can be located in the Microforms
Department in cabinets marked "ASI".
Statistical Abstract of the United States
Location: Most recent at the 2nd floor Ready Reference
Collection,
earlier issues on the Document shelves (C 3.134:).
Library has issues beginning with 1936 edition. Also, available online - Statistical Abstract of the United States
Comprehensive collection of statistical tables extracted from various
publications of federal agencies and associations. There is a subject
index in the back that gives references to the tables.
Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics

Reference Collection,

Compilation of statistics divided into six main sections: "Characteristics
of the Criminal Justice System"; "Public Attitudes Toward Crime"; "Nature
and Distribution of Known Offenses"; "Characteristics and Distribution
of Persons Arrested"; "Judicial Processing of Defendants"; and "Persons
Under Correctional Supervision". Library has issues beginning with 1985
edition.
National Crime Victimization Survey Report
Location: Documents shelves [J 1.42/3].
Series intended to complement the Uniform Crime Reports, (or UCR), NCVS
provides a detailed picture of crime incidents, victims, and trends from
the victim's perspective. This series was formerly titled, the National
Crime Survey Report, and the National Crime Panel Survey Report,
prior to that time. UICCAT can be used to access the various topics
covered by the series.

Reference Collection;

Crime statistics contributed by state and local law enforcement agencies
to the FBI under the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Some areas covered
include" "Crime Index Offenses Reported"; "Crime Index Offenses Cleared";
"Persons Arrested"; and "Law Enforcement Personnel". Library has issues
beginning with 1930 edition.

Issued since 1981, this series of brief, recurring, special reports, covers
topics such as prisoners, capital punishment, households and crime, prison
terms, and crime and the elderly. These reports can be accessed through
the UICCAT. Some of the titles include: "Changes in criminal victimization,
1994-95" (J 29.11/10:994-95), "Census of state and local law enforcement
agencies" (J 29.11:L 41/998), "HIV in prisons" (J 29.11: P 93), etc.
FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin

Issued since 1932, this journal contains articles on the activities and
interests of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Federal Probation
Location: Documents Periodicals Area, (shelved by title)
Research oriented journal that contains articles on all aspects of adjudication
and corrections (sentencing, probation, parole). Journal is published
on a semi-annual basis.
Criminal Law Reporter
Location: Documents Department, aisle R7
CLR is a loose-leaf publication divided into five sections: "Survey and
Analysis of Current Developments"; "Court Decisions and Proceedings";
"Legislative Action"; "Reports and Proposals"; "Text" (containing the
text of all U.S. Supreme Court opinions in criminal cases and significant
legislation, reports and proposals); "Supreme Court Proceedings, Arguments,
Actions, and Filings"; and Index and Tables of Cases for each volume.
