Aerial Photographs
Aerial photographs, or airphotos, or orthophotos, are one of the most
popular items at the Map Section. The Map Section has one of the most
comprehensive and publicly available aerial photograph collections for the City of Chicago
and its surrounding metropolitan area. Other than our Chicago area airphoto
collection there are several web sites that provide aerial photographs for
viewing and/or downloading. The list below shows links to such downloadable
airphoto websites and our major collection of Chicago area orthophotographs.
Some other miscellaneous airphotos are available for patron's use. Please check
our library catalog also. (Tip: use a keyword "aerial" and a name of
the place, i.e. "Chicago".)

Report Missing Aerial Photographs:
You may not be able to find aerial photographs which are supposed to be in the
map drawers. In deed, one of the problems we discovered is a mystery of
disappearing maps & aerial photographs. Please let us know the index number
and the year of the aerial photograph that seems to be missing, at
lib-maps@uic.edu.
We will try to follow up on the matter. Thank you for your cooperation.
