ESIP Federation: The Federation of Earth Science Information Partners Data Center
http://www.esipfed.org/data_center/
The Federation of ESIP (The Federation) is a network of researchers and associated groups that collects, interprets and develops applications for satellite-generated Earth observation information. The Federation currently maintains over 3,500 Earth Science datasets. Founded in 1998 under a grant from NASA, the consortium includes more than 80 member organizations, spanning NASA and NOAA's data centers, government research laboratories, research universities, education resource providers, technology developers, and nonprofit and commercial enterprises.
EOS-WEBSTER
http://eos-webster.sr.unh.edu/home.jsp
EOS-WEBSTER provides free, customized Earth Science data with unique search functions. Users can search Earth Science datasets spatially, temporally, or by keyword, or collection name. Users must register first to obtain anydatasets.
UNEP: United Nations Environment Programme, GEO Data Portal
http://geodata.grid.unep.ch/
The GEO Data Portal is the authoritative source for data sets used by UNEP and its partners in the Global Environment Outlook (GEO) report and other integrated environment assessments. Its online database holds more than 450 different variables, as national, subregional, regional and global statistics or as geospatial data sets (maps), covering themes like Freshwater, Population, Forests, Emissions, Climate, Disasters, Health and GDP. Display them on-the-fly as maps, graphs, data tables or download the data in different formats, including shapefiles. Also check this another UNEP/GRID data clearinghouse, http://www.na.unep.net/datasets/datalist.php3 .
NASA GeoCover
https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/
The GeoCover provides access to (circa) 1990 and 2000 Landsat Imagery in the MrSID format. This site provides easy access to a decade interval (1990 & 2000) dataset. For peole who prefer to access more extensive Landsat imagery data collection, please try the GLCF website below. For more information about Landsat data, please also visit the USGS Landsat Project website and also USGS EarthExplorer website.
GLCF: Global Land Cover Facility
http://esip.umiacs.umd.edul
The GLCF is a center for land cover science with a focus on research using remotely sensed satellite data and products to assess land cover change for local to global system. It has a spatially and temporally extensive data collection which are downloadable throught its unique search function, Earth Science dData Interface (ESDI). The GLCF is hosted by the University of Maryland.
CIESIN: Center for International Earth Science Information Network
http://www.ciesin.org/
The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) is a center within the Earth Institute at Columbia University. CIESIN works at the intersection of the social, natural, and information sciences, and specializes in on-line data and information management, spatial data integration and training, and interdisciplinary research related to human interactions in the environment. One of the most popular geospatial data portal hosted by academic institutions. Here is a link to a list of downloadable data.
ISCGM: International Steering Committee for Global Mapping
http://www.iscgm.org/
The ISCGM Global Mapping Project, hosted by the Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, supports development of global scale geographic information through international cooperation. Global map thematic data sets (i.e. transportations, drainage, administrative boundaries, population centers, elevation, vegetation and landcover/use) will provide coverage of the whole land area on earth at 1 km resolution in a consistent manner. Each thematic data set is released to the public in a digital format for easy handling by computer and its content is equivalent to conventional maps at scales of 1 : 1,000,000. This map show the progress of the project - pink color means data is already available for the country.
USGS GEODE: GEO-Data Explorer
http://geode.usgs.gov/
The GEODE provides access to a broad spectrum of mainly geological spatial datasets produced by the USGS and other government Agencies. Originally started as a means of displaying energy data for the USGS, GEODE has recently been adopted as the data delivery system of the Geologic Discipline and continues to provide unbiased scientific and energy related data to the public via a fully functional, web accessed GIS map server. Also check this another USGS Mineral Resources On-Line Spatial Data website, MR Spatial Data.
IDIS: Integrated Database Information System
http://dw.iwmi.org/dataplatform/Home.aspx
The IDIS is an online data sharing platform that provides access to water, agriculture and environment scientific data to help researchers and their research partners improve the water productivity Datasets are organized by basin, county and categories.
