Bibliographic access: Atlases are listed only in
UICCAT, the library's online catalog. Search by author, title, subject, or
keyword. Consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings to find the
appropriate subject search term, e.g., Paris (France)–Maps, Australia–Maps,
Historical geography–Maps, Linguistic geography–Maps.
Physical access: The atlases are shelved, either
vertically or horizontally (** preceding the call number), at the north end
of the Maps Section and are available for use whenever the Daley Library is
open. Atlases published before 1900 and other atlases that need special
handling are housed in storage. Atlases in storage may be requested at the
Documents and Map Desk, 3rd floor center, and will be available for use on
the following day (weekdays only).
Circulation policy: Most atlases circulate and
may be charged out at the Circulation Desk, 1st floor center. A one-day
loan of some non-circulating atlases may be approved at the discretion of a
Documents, Maps and Microforms Department librarian. Renewals, for
circulating atlases, may be made either in-person, by telephone
(312/996-2724), through E-mail (lib-circ@uic.edu), or online through the
Library’s “Services” web page.
