Direct Links to Full-Text Journal Articles

Important Proxy Note

The following URL must appear in front of all full-text journal URLs (including the examples below) in order for UIC students, faculty or staff to access these resources from an off-campus location. It is the proxy server address which allows authentication to UIC persons entering restricted resources. UIC-affiliated users who are on campus will be linked directly to the resource.

Links to PDF Files on Publisher Sites

Open up the PDF version of the article needing a full-text link. Click on the URL in the browser so the URL appears highlighted. Copy the highlighted URL. Paste the URL where needed in the Web Page. This will work in the following Journal/Aggregator databases:

  • Annual Reviews
  • ScienceDirect
  • Karger
  • SpringerLink

If you run into problems creating links to full-text journal article PDF files, please contact Ask a Librarian for assistance.

Links to Full Text in Article Databases

EBSCOHost databases

It is not possible to copy and paste the address for full-text articles in EBSCOHost databases. However, it is possible to copy and paste the address for the citation, which will then link to the full-text, if available. Once you have done a search in one of the EBSCOHost databases, you will be provided with a results list. Locate the article to which you want to link, and click on the title of the article. (Do NOT click on "PDF Full-text" or "HTML Full-text".) This will lead to the citation where a "Persistent link to this record" is available. Copy and paste the URL next to "Persistent link to this record" into your Web page. When the link to the citation is clicked, the link to the full-text will be provided through the citation.

MDConsult

Open the full text of the article to which you want to link. Click on the URL in the browser so the URL appears highlighted. Copy the highlighted URL and paste the URL where needed. This will create a direct link to the needed article. However, in order to access the article, the user must have a user name and password created through the free "Personal Account" on UIC’s MDConsult subscription page.

Ovid

Click the 'Ovid Full Text' link for the article to which you wish to link. Next click 'Email Jumpstart'. Copy and paste the full address appearing under the heading 'Your Jumpstart URL is:'

In the case of the Cochrane database, select 'EBM Topic Review' instead of 'Ovid Full Text'. For ACP Journal Club and DARE links, select 'EBM Article Review'.

To find instructions for additional titles, search The URL Clearinghouse.

Cautionary Note: Double check all full-text links to ensure they work correctly. If you encounter problems, contact Information Services / Reference at one of the UIC Libraries or submit a question through Ask a Librarian.
