Health & Psychosocial Instruments (HaPI)
HaPI is a database produced by Behavioral Measurement Database Services
(BMDS) and searchable through the OVID interface. This system supplies
access to information on measurement instruments: questionnaires,
interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/manuals,
rating scales, projective techniques, vignettes/scenarios, tests. The
general areas of coverage include the health fields, psychosocial
sciences, organizational behavior, and library & information science. The
coverage is 1985 to present with some earlier measures available. It is
searchable by topic, by instrument name, by instrument acronym, and by
author.

CINAHL Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature
This database covers the fields of nursing and allied health. It indexes
journal literature and the publications of the American Nurses Association
and the National League for Nursing. CINAHL records contain a field for
instrumentation making it possible to search for articles discussing
specific health instruments.

ERIC
This databases indexes research documents, journal articles, technical
reports, program descriptions and evaluations, and curricular materials in
the field of education. All of the items in the database are indexed with
ERIC's controlled vocabulary. Some terms which may be useful include
Measurement, Measures (Individual), Tests, Surveys, and
Questionnaires.

This database indexes journal literature in the field of psychology along
with books, book chapters, reports, and dissertations. This system
can be searched by subject headings such as Measurement, Questionnaires,
Pain Measurement, Surveys, etc. It can also be search by specific
instrument as a general keyword search.

This database indexes over 4,800 biomedical journals from around the
world. This can be searched by subject headings such as Health Surveys,
Data Collection, and Questionnaires. It can also be searched by specific
instrument name as a keyword search.

This five-volume work contains tests, surveys, and questionnaires related
to the study and assessment of quality of life. Many of the instruments
in this work are also included in languages other than English. A good
source for viewing the actual instruments in this area of study.

This handbook provides a broad range of information on research in social
and behavioral science. Of particular interest is Part 7 on Scales and
Indexes which provides information on numerous instruments including
reliability and validity. The Handbook includes sections on basic,
applied, and qualitative research and may be a most useful guide to those
beginning the research process.

This book is divided into four sections. The first section is an overview
with chapters on specific issues regarding clinical research such as
measurement issues with the elderly, with language translations, with
children, etc. The rest of the sections discuss instruments by type of
assessment: Health and Function, Health-Promotion Activities, and Clinical
Problems. While not a source for copies of actual instruments, this is a
solid reference resource with information on various tools including their
strengths, weaknesses, and relevance for research.

This two volume work was published by the Health Resources Administration,
Division of Nursing. It is the result of a four-year project dedicated to
collecting information on data-gathering instruments in order to enhance
nursing research by avoiding duplication of effort, and reducing both
cost and time. This work provides descriptions and critiques as well as
copies of multiple tools. Although dated, it may be of use due to the
availability of actual instruments as well as information on
reliability and validity.

The first chapter provides introductory information on measuring quality
of life. The remaining chapters provide background information on their
specific area and a review of scales/instruments used including
reliability and validity. This book does not contain reprints of entire
scales/tests.

basis of measurement. This book provides information for each instrument
on its purpose, conceptual basis, description, reliability, validity,
commentary, and references. Also provided are copies of many of the
instruments.

Support; Measures of Life Satisfaction and Morale. The first two chapters
provide an introduction to the area of measuring disease. The following
chapters provide background information for the chapter topic and then
discuss individual tests in detail including information on reliability
and validity. Full copies of the tests/scales are not available in this book.

since the previous edition. The contents include a bibliography of
commercially available tests, critical reviews of selected tests, indexes

This book contains information for over 200 instruments specific to
research regarding women. It is divided into two parts, the first of
which describes the organization of the book and measurement problems.
The second part contains 11 chapters on various topics: sex role
prescriptions; gender knowledge; marital and parental roles; attitudes
towards women's issues; etc. These chapters list instruments that have
been used in research and provide information for each test including
author, age group, source, comments, and supplementary references.
Although an older work this is a unique bibliographic source for
tests.
