This workshop is geared towards graduate students and
faculty in Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines who'd like to
brush up on research tools allowing them to do powerful searches across
multiple databases and subject areas. This workshop will provide practical
tips for finding relevant materials using advanced features of CSA Illumina,
Google Scholar, qUICsearch multiple database search and the newly designed
ISI Web of Knowledge database.

Eliminate Toxic Waste:
Finding Environmental Information without Wasting Time

Starting with the National Library of Medicine's Toxicology
Data Network (TOXNET), this workshop will examine several search portals
and engines to locate environmental health and toxicology resources
both nationally and internationally. These include databases related
to poisoning, animal toxicity studies, drugs affecting breastfeeding
mothers and toxic literature.

This online seminar will discuss the process for locating,
formatting and inserting digital images into your instructional or sholarly
presentations. The principles and skills taught will not be platform
or software specific, although the session will be taught using a PC
and proprietary applications.

Good & Free: Online Consumer
Health Information You Can Trust

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) have created a number of databases of consumer
health information that are available online for free. This one-hour
session will cover the basics of MedlinePlus, NIH SeniorHealth and other
reliable web sites devoted to health information needs of consumers
such as disease-specific, pharmaceutical and herbal information. A digital
handout of these and other reputable web sites will be provided.

Everything?

This workshop will cover online health sciences databases
available to you for conducting thorough searches, and how to utilize
features of each database to ensure retrieval of relevant results. Databases
covered will include: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Biological Abstracts,
PsycInfo, CINAHL, and Google Scholar.

Images.MD is an online encyclopedia of over 70,000 medical
images including tables, charts, illustrations, radiographic images,
and photographs. Each image comes with descriptive text which can be
edited. This session will cover search techniques, setting up your own
account, using the system to create your own slideset, editing image
titles and legends, and converting your slideset into a PowerPoint presentation.
The session will also touch upon other methods and resources for finding
medical images.

are required; a microphone is helpful (in case you need to ask
a question) but you may also type any questions or comments you

- A miniumum of a
56K modem should work
- All seminars will
be held in the ACCC E-room
- You need to have
set up an ACCC e-rooms account
- If you have not
used an ACCC e-room yet, you will need to get an account http://e-rooms.uic.edu/

| How
do I register for a Virtual Seminar? |
- You need to Register
for the Virtual Seminar(s) by enrolling in the class in ACCC E-rooms
(see above for setting up an account).
- To enroll in a
class - go to
http://e-rooms.uic.edu/
and login. Once in, click on Enrollment. Click on the "Library"
folder from the Root Event Group List. Click on "enroll'
next to the seminar(s) that you wish to attend. Doing this will
register you in the class.
- A reminder will
be sent close to the date of the class reminding you that you
registered. Please un-register yourself if you realize you will
not longer be able to attend.

do I attend when it is time for the Virtual Seminar? |

When it is time to attend
a seminar (about 5 minutes prior to the start time) - go to http://e-rooms.uic.edu/
and login. Once in, click on my schedule (if you are not put there
automatically). Click on "attend" next to the seminar that
is about to be held.
