Loansome Doc

An electronic document ordering service of the National Library of Medicine

Loansome Doc is a document ordering service that allows users to request copies of articles from citations retrieved in a PubMed search. The user tags the desired articles and electronically uploads this information to a local medical library. The library will then copy the article, if available, or electronically transfer the request to another appropriate network library.

Loansome Doc is a fee-based service available to UIC affiliates, unaffiliated health professionals, and the general public. All users must sign a contract with LHS to register for the service.

The UIC Library of the Health Sciences will take action on all Loansome Doc requests within twenty-four hours on weekdays; requests received on weekends and holidays will be acted on the next working day. If the item requested is not held in the LHS collection, the user has the option of referring the request to another institution. For UIC affiliates, referred requests are filled at no cost to the patron. Referred requests may take up to 10 days to be filled.

Costs

UIC Faculty, Staff and Students: $10.00

Members & Health Care Professionals: $25.00*

Organizations, Corporations, UIC Alumni and General Public: $35.00*

*All charges in this category reflect a $15 per article copyright fee.
