Library of the Health Sciences - Chicago
Document Delivery
Loansome Doc | InfoQUIC
| Copyright
For a fee, the Library of the Health Sciences - Chicago (LHSC) will retrieve, photocopy and deliver articles from any journal in our collection for UIC faculty, staff and students as well as for users who are not affiliated with the University. There are two ways in which users can request this service:
Loansome Doc
Loansome Doc is a document ordering service that allows users to request copies
of articles from citations retrieved in a PubMed search. The user tags the
desired articles and electronically uploads this information to a local medical
library. The library will then copy the article, if available, or
electronically transfer the request to another appropriate network library.
Users must sign a contract with the Library of the Health Sciences to register
for the service.
LHSC will take action on all Loansome Doc
requests within twenty-four hours on weekdays; requests received on weekends
and holidays will be acted on the next working day. If the item requested is
not held in the LHSC collection, the user has the option of directing that LHSC refer the request to another institution. For UIC affiliates, referred requests
are filled at no cost to the patron. Referred requests may take up to 10 days to be filled.
Costs
UIC Faculty, Staff and Students: $10.00
Members & Health Care Professionals: $25.00*
Organizations, Corporations, UIC Alumni and General Public: $35.00*
*All charges in this category reflect a $15 per article copyright fee.
Articles may be picked up in the Library or delivered via email, campus or U.S. mail, or fax. Payment may be by check, monthly billing or by UIC departmental charge if a Library Multiple Authorization form is on file. The University Library cannot accept cash payment.
Once you have registered, please go to PubMed to order articles. If you have questions on ordering, call us at (312) 996-8966.

InfoQUIC
InfoQUIC provides retrieval and delivery of copies of journal articles
held in the collections of the UIC University Library to faculty, staff, students and non-UIC users. Users may submit requests during library hours on forms available at all UIC Library sites. Requests may also be submitted by fax (312-996-1899) or electronically via LIBMAIL: http://www.uic.edu/depts/lib/libmail/infoquic.shtml/.
Telephone requests cannot be accepted.
Requests received by 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday will be ready for
pickup or will be mailed the next business day provided the material is
available. Requests received on Friday, Saturday or Sunday will be available no
later than Monday. Extra time may be required to fill large orders. The
University Library cannot accept responsibility for material delayed in campus
or U.S. mail. Inaccurate or incomplete citations will delay processing the
request; it is the responsibility of the requester to verify that the material
is held by the UIC library. If a request cannot be filled in a timely fashion, the requester will be notified.

The Library is obligated to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
