Applications for handhelds are available from a number of different
vendors. Often specials or "bundled" packages are offered at significant
savings so you may want to shop around. Most software is available via
download. Registration is usually required and a
credit card will be necessary for fee-based software. Trial versions of
many medical applications are available and are recommended if you are
unsure as to the value of a particular product. Consider the following
when looking for software:
Size
How much memory does the program require; typical memory requirements
vary from under 100KB to 10MB.
Source
Procure software only from reputable vendors; beware of freeware or
shareware from an unkown individual or entity.
Format
Make sure the program is for the computer operating system that you
use (Windows or Mac) and is the correct handheld format (Palm OS, Windows
PC, etc.)
Ease of Access and Use
Is the download process simple and straightforware? Is the program
file self-extracting or is an unzip utility required? Before you purchase
a product understand if it is a stand-alone product or something that
requires regular updates through synchronization.
