Integrated Instruction |

The library's educational program emphasizes curriculum-integrated
instruction for the Colleges
of Medicine and Nursing. Faculty interested in incorporating information
management into their
curriculum should contact library staff. Library instruction is
tailored to individual course
assignments.

Database Instruction |

Learn effective use of online databases and electronic journals.
Options for databases include, but are not limited to, MEDLINE, PubMed,
Ovid, IBIS, WebofKnowledge, and MDConsult. Instruction for access to
ejournals and use of other online reference tools such as Harrison's is
also available.

Reference Staff will visit your office or department and provide
individualized instruction to meet the needs of your department or you.

Mediated
Online Searching |
|
Librarians conduct searches on any of several hundred
online
databases,
some of which are fee-based. A search may be requested in person or by
telephoning the Reference Office at (309) 671-8494. The librarian will
discuss potential
databases to be searched, any estimated costs, and turn-around
time to receive the results. Mediated searches conducted for
non-affiliates incur additional charges.

Orientations & Tours |
|
Reference staff will demonstrate the basics of finding research materials,
the various databases and journals (online & print) available, and point
out the highlights of the Library of the Health Sciences Peoria.

Reference
Services |
|
Reference librarians are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday
through Thrusday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. on Friday, or by appointment.
Reference service is available to both affiliated and nonaffiliated users,
either in person, by phone (309)671-8494, or via
e-mail.
Reference staff provide help in answering specific queries and
in using library
resources. Limited assistance is available from library circulation
staff evenings and weekends. |
Workshops & Seminars |

Library workshops and seminars include training in the effective use of databases and computer programs. Instruction is also available for access to e-journals and the use of other online reference tools such as MDConsult or Harrison's.

Training for computer programs includes, but is not limited to:
- Reference Manager
- PowerPoint
- MS Word
