Search Ovid
Determine the appropriate database for the subject matter you wish to search. Check with the library for features specific to the Ovid database you are using.
|
Enter your keyword or phrase (e.g., gender differences). | ![]() |
In databases which use a thesaurus or controlled vocabulary, Ovid will automatically try to map your search term to a similar or related term(s). If the database you are using offers this feature, a Map Term Checkbox will appear.
If any of the terms Ovid lists appear appropriate, you can click on the Select checkbox for any or all of the terms.
If you choose more than one term, use the pull-down menu at the top of the page to combine them with OR or AND.
Explode. To increase retrieval, click on the Explode checkbox to select the term and any narrower terms or concepts. (e.g., Exploding the term Neurological Impairments will include the narrower terms of Aphasia, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and Minimal Brain Dysfunction).
Focus. Click on the Focus checkbox to limit your search to citations where your term is the main topic.
If Ovid was unable to provide a list of related terms for your subject, try to think of other related terms and repeat the above steps OR click off the Map Term Checkbox.
Ovid will provide the results of your search in the table entitled Search History. Ovid will also provide a number for each of your search terms or sets.
Enter the next keyword or phrase that you would like Ovid to search. The names of authors, journals, or titles may be searched by clicking on the appropriate icon.
