Consumer Health Resources and Services

The UIC Library of the Health Sciences at Rockford (LHS-Rockford) serves as a resource library for the greater Rockford community spanning ten counties in Northwest Illinois.  Members of the community are welcome to use the library to research health topics.  Resources and services available to consumers include:

• a consumer/patient oriented collection of books on many topics
• access to many health related databases, including MEDLINE (professional journals) and MEDLINEPlus (consumer oriented information)
• access to the Internet to browse health related web sites
• assistance from trained staff in locating reliable health information
• access to a copy machine
• fee-based document delivery service [InfoQuic / Loansome Doc] for journal articles from other libraries
  
• people over 16 years of age may check out materials if they possess a valid picture ID, social security number, and phone number

Library staff are available to provide reference assistance during normal business hours – 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.  Limited assistance is available on evenings and weekends.   

Library staff are available to provide an orientation to the library for small groups, e.g. support groups.  These visitations should be planned at least two weeks in advance.  If you are interested in setting up a group orientation please contact the library at:
