Interlibrary Loan

Who can use the interlibrary loan service?

This service is limited to UIC faculty, staff, and students. Other individuals may request materials from their public library or from the Learning Resource Center at Rock Valley College.

When should I use interlibrary loan?

You may request copies of journal articles, books, dissertations, and other materials if the item is not available in the Library of the Health Sciences at Rockford.

How do I request an item?

After you have determined the item is not available in the Library of the Health Sciences at Rockford by checking: 1) UICCAT (the online catalog); 2) the LHS-Rockford List of Serials, (copies of this are available in computer labs and at the Info/Circ desk); and 3) the UIC list of e-journals, complete an ILL request form. Print copies of the form are available at the Info/Circ desk. Interlibrary loan requests may also be submitted electronically using LibMail.

How long does it take?

Turnaround time is dependent on the location; items ordered from another UIC library generally only take a few days. If the item is requested from an out-of-state library, it may take a little longer. If your request is considered urgent -- usually information needed for patient care -- be sure to indicate that on the request and it will be given a higher priority.

How will I get the material?

Copies of journal articles are generally placed in student mailboxes or mailed to campus or home addresses. Books, dissertations, media and other materials will be shipped to the Library of the Health Sciences at Rockford and you will be notified to come in and pick them up.

What should I do if an item doesn't arrive?

If you do not receive an item within a week or two, check with someone at the Info/Circ desk and they will assist you.
