Frequently Asked questions about Interlibrary Loan
How long does it take?
Article:
Article requests from other UIC libraries generally arrive within one week. If
special arrangements are needed, please discuss with a member of the
Information Services staff.
Books
Book loans from other UIC libraries generally arrive within two weeks.
How will I get the material?
Articles
Articles can be delivered in one of two ways:
- A copy of the article will arrive electronically as an Adobe
Acrobat PDF (Portable Document Format) file. You will be sent an e-mail
message directing you to a Web site where the PDF file can be accessed.
The PDF format preserves original pagination and format. You may print a
paper copy of the article to keep.
- A photocopy of the article will be sent to your campus address or
mailbox. The photocopy is yours to keep.
Books, Dissertations, Audiovisuals, and Other Materials
You will be notified to pick up the item at the Library of the
Health Sciences-Urbana. These items must be returned
by the date given.
Will I be charged for interlibrary loan service?
No. However, please be aware that other fee-based services are
available.
What should I do if an item hasn't arrived?
If you have not received the item, you may check with a member of the
Information Services staff.
As items not available at other UIC libraries are processed by the
UIUC IRRC Borrowing Office,
it is possible that you will be referred to that office for assistance.
