Now that you have access to a collection of over 10,000 online full-text journals and hundreds of databases through the UIC Library, is it too much to expect online access to library services? The answer is no! The UIC Library offers several digital services that provide convenient access to information, circulation, and document delivery services.

  • Ask A Librarian is a digital reference service that gives you the option of chatting live with a UIC librarian or sending a question via electronic mail. Chat hours of operation are 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday - Friday (except holidays). E-mail reference is available 24 hours 7 days a week. Questions are answered within 24 hours on business days. Librarians from all UIC libraries share coverage, so you may meet a librarian you've never "chatted" with before or your question might be referred to an expert librarian in Australia if your question concerned the Great Coral Reef.
  • Desktop Delivery of interlibrary loans or fee-based document delivery services sends requested documents to a dedicated server for you to retrieve with a PIN. No more waiting for faxed copies to be mailed to you. To place an electronic request for a document, use the Forms for Requesting Materials and Services on the Library's home page.
  • Electronic Reserves makes course readings available to students 24X7 from any computer with an Internet connection. Instructors submit reserve materials to the Library by fax, by citation, or by URL to have them made available to their students electronically. Unfortunately, now there's no longer an excuse for not getting required reading done.
  • My Account is a special feature within UICCAT that allows you to manage your circulation records. Renew a book with just a click and avoid those unexpected fines. Or use My Account to request or recall a book from one of the other UIC library locations in Chicago, Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana. My Account also allows you to save selected records and search strategies
  • MyLibrary@UIC is a customized Web "portal," a tool that allows library users to create a personalized library Web page. By creating a MyLibrary@UIC account, you will be able to visit a single Web page that contains resources tailored to your personal research needs and interests. MyLibrary@UIC also gives you helpful updates and pointers that pertain to your subject.

The Library's digital services are user friendly and easy to find. Click on the Services button on the Library's home page for a complete listing of services available to you. Give these digital services a try next time a cold winter wind is blowing and you've settled in for a long night of study. Stay connected @ www.uic.edu/depts/lib.
