CHANGES TO UICCAT: NEW FEATURES & A NEW LOOK
Some changes in UICCAT were made on Monday, May 24, to provide new search features and to allow the UIC Library to conform more closely with customization guidelines developed by ILCSO, the statewide resource sharing consortium. At this time we also changed to a new banner and color scheme.
The majority of these changes involve wording. For example, Advanced
Search has been renamed Guided Keyword Search, and we are now using
standardized search field names as well as standardized help pages.
We are also implementing a few new features that we expect to be of
great value to our user community. The most important of these is the
ability to rerun searches quickly in the universal catalog (All ILCSO
Libraries) after performing a search within the local catalog (UICCAT).
Please try out this new option.
Example 1:
Try performing an Any Word Anywhere search for
the phrase "critical thinking". When viewing the title list of the
results screen, notice that there is now a link near the top called Repeat
Search in All ILCSO Libraries. Clicking on this link will open a new
window and automatically perform a search across all member libraries.
Example 2:
Search by title for: Teaching Thinking Across the Curriculum.
When the record appears, notice that the UIC copy is not available. Next
to the status section of the holdings (item is currently checked out), you
will see a link called Which Other ILCSO Libraries Own This Title?
Selecting this link will bring up a new window which displays the record
for this item within the universal catalog showing all holdings across
ILCSO. This link will appear in our item records whenever an item is
checked out, renewed, lost, missing, or otherwise not available.
We believe these changes will enable you to use our UICCAT more effectively than ever. If you agree or have any comments, either positive or negative, we'd like to hear from you.
